Carrara and dark Bardiglio marbles create a checkerboard pattern across the restaurant floor, one that is reminiscent of the classic Italian American tiled vinyl flooring.

Space was re-designed by Ewert Leaf, a renowned Australian design and architecture agency, to provide an inviting organic retail experience on Chapel Street, the city’s main street. Even before the renovation, the store had ceased to be a space only for the sale of quality cuts of meat to include cold cuts, fresh vegetables, and jams. Thus, the new environment was designed so that the products were perfectly displayed in a harmonic design and friendly to the eyes.
The meat showcase is structured in Italian Terrazzo, sprinkled with dark green natural stone, while carefully selected products are displayed on shelves and refrigerators coupled to a curved cabinet made of American oak leaves. The hardwood floor warms the look of the environment. The extra charm is on account of the classic ceramic tiles in a brilliant white, a way of catching the customer by the look before conquering it by the unique taste.

Responsible for the multi-million dollar refresh is renowned designer Steve Hermann, known as the design guru for the Hollywood elite, celebrities, and foreign royalty. Nestled within three acres of gorgeous manicured desert grounds, it offers the perfect boutique hotel experience to the most demanding of guests.
A rather startling mountain backdrop frames this midcentury architectural jewel set in hip South Palm Springs, first of the region to be a part of the Leading Hotels of the World, to have a Michelin star chef heading its restaurant and to represent the new Steve Hermann Hotels – from the designer to the houses of everyone from Christina Aguilera to Vera Wang to the Saudi Royal Family. Located in Deepwell, a residential neighborhood close to the former hideaway homes of celebrities like Elvis, Frank Sinatra, and Kirk Douglas, the hotel is only a short drive to downtown and not far from the thermal wonders of Desert Hot Springs and Joshua Tree National Park.
Here, only 25 upscale bungalows, each different from one another, anticipate fortuitous guests. While some provide a private zero edge pool and patio with furniture, as well as floor to ceiling glass windows, others uncover a full-length rain forest shower overlooking a private terrarium filled with cacti. In some way or another, though, all provide a feeling of immediate connection to the surrounding environment. In the Californian venue, some of the front-runners are the wagyu tartare with wild sturgeon caviar and the poached lobster with Dungeness crab ravioli and avocado mousse.
To top it off, indulgent treats include the french toast ice cream with brioche chips and the strawberry shortcake with bruléed tomatoes and basil gel. The Pool Cabanas and Patio are the idyllic locations to unwind with a prosecco or a lavender gin fizz in hand while overlooking the mountainous views. Miami, FL November 2018 – Swan and Bar Bevy, the much-anticipated Miami Design District collaboration between Miami hospitality and nightlife visionary David Grutman’s Groot Hospitality, and Pharrell Williams, is now open featuring the cuisine of Top Chef Europe champ, executive chef Jean Imbert.
A celebration of femininity. This is the architectural proposal of the restaurant Swan, a new venture of the musician Pharrell Williams in partnership with the entrepreneur David Grutman, recently opened in the Design District in Miami. The ambiance created by interior designer Ken Fulk is all rosé- from ceiling to floor literally through furniture. While the walls are adorned with portraits of divas, such as Cate Blanchett, Catherine Deneuve, and Linda Evangelista, and works of fashion illustrator David Downton, known for his work with brands like Chanel, Dior, and Tiffany. The menu signed by chef and the winner of the third season of Top Chef Europe Jean Imbert, is an unforgettable gastronomic adventure with influences from different parts of the world and local ingredients. Coupled with the Bevy Bar, the restaurant’s cocktail lounge upstairs is the place where guests are can spend a great time enjoying the DJ booth, karaoke and movie theaters, as well as exclusive drinks.
With an emphasis on locally and sustainably sourced ingredients, Imbert’s globally influenced, the modern chic menu at Swan includes signature dishes such as Snapper Sashimi: Mango, serrano chili and pickled kumquats; Corn: Creamy polenta, popcorn, and brown butter; Ratatouille: Bell pepper, zucchini, eggplant, tomato; Dover Sole: Brown butter, capers, and lemon; Roasted Chicken: Curry-carrot purée, buckwheat, and vadouvan. San Francisco and New York-based interior designer and lifestyle curator Ken Fulk collaborated with Grutman and Williams to conceptualize the indoor/outdoor, 250-seat restaurant and upstairs cocktail lounge. Known for his irreverent style, Fulk drew inspiration for Swan from the surrounding Design District and the restaurant’s proximity to water, with a nod to old school pastel-hued Miami and Palm Beach, as seen in the soft tones of shell pink, creamy opal, and jade green. Adorning the walls over the custom banquette seating are works by fashion illustrator David Downton, known for his work with Chanel, Dior, Tiffany and portraits of celebs including Cate Blanchett, Catherine Deneuve, Iman, and Linda Evangelista. The restaurant’s centerpiece is a work of art in itself–a horseshoe-shaped bar covered in scalloped tile, topped with pewter and backed with glowing pink onyx.
In the Islamic religion, paradise originates from a garden – the word “Jannah” refers to both. Such is the case at Hotel La Mamounia. In the eighteenth century, the sultan of Morocco, Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdallah, offered one precious city garden in Marrakech to each of his four sons as wedding gifts. The most famous of them, named after Prince Mamoun, is where the hotel now stands. Covering 17 hectares and surrounded by twelfth-century walls, it is prominently located just a few minutes from the famous Koutoubia mosque and the Jemaa el-Fnaa square. Conceived in 1923 by architects Prost and Marchisio, the property combines the country’s traditional architecture with the Art Deco style. It has since been expanded and refurbished four times, between 1946 and 2006, increasing from 50 to 210 rooms, and re-designed by internationally acclaimed Jacques Garcia – but always maintaining the key features for which it has been admired since its construction. Four restaurants, four bars, an 800 square meters swimming pool and a 2.500 square meter spa now unfold the ultimate Moroccan travel experience.
A cool glass of almond milk and a platter of tender dates greet visitors that pull up in the hotel’s sleek Daimler Jaguars at the lobby of La Mamounia, where candlelight produces a gilded effect against the mahogany furniture and the hotel’s signature scent, a mixture of cedar trees and fresh citrus, created by world-renowned French perfumer Olivia Giacobetti, floats through the air. The treats continue to the rooms, where a welcoming cocktail, fresh fruit, and local delicacies await next to flowers, typical Moroccan slippers, and generously sized amenities abound. Rooms feature rich and shimmering tones, king size beds with studded leather headboards, thick rugs, and throws, intricately patterned wall tiles, internal lattice-wood screens, and colorful mosaic-tiled floors, as well as the latest in technology and white marble bathrooms.
They are divided into 135 rooms from 30 to 45 square meters, 71 suites from 55 to 212 square meters and 3 riads, with 700 square meters. The latter can accommodate up to six adults and provide three bedrooms, three bathrooms, Moroccan salons, and private swimming pools and terraces, as well as a 24-hour butler service. One of the hotel’s famed guests, Winston Churchill, who often established his winter quarters here – several of his paintings of the property’s garden hang in the Churchill Museum, in England –, gives name to a bar and a special suite, which displays a very British Chesterfield desk and a distressed leather sofa. The statesman is not, however, the only luminary to have stayed here – in fact, it seems almost easier to list who hasn’t stayed at La Mamounia than who has. French general Charles de Gaulle, for example, had a special bed made to accommodate his full 1.96 meters.
Each restaurant has an adjacent bar, and Le Bar Italien, with opulent velvet armchairs in orange and red, is quite the romantic choice. At Le Marocain, it is all about local cuisine. Try the lamb rack glazed with thyme honey and walnut with stewed pineapple and celeriac or the couscous with marinated tuna and vegetable emulsion. For dessert, the strawberry tagine with tomato masala offers an explosion of flavors. Live regional music is played at the restaurant and the bar, situated on the terrace. With stunning views over the garden, it is the perfect place to catch the sunset and watch the hotel transform itself as hundreds of lanterns are lit to create a dreamy nighttime environment.
Brasserie chic is the motto at Le Français, where special ingredients include Casablanca duck liver pate, locally sourced from Michlifen, succulent Dakhla, and Oualidia oysters, and fresh Agadir lobster and lamb reared in the Atlas mountains. Marble columns and oversized lampshades decorate the restaurant. At the Churchill Bar, leather and fine wood paneling prevail, with a 1930s jazz atmosphere reinforced by the singer piano duo performs almost every evening. The drink named after the politician mixes Tanqueray No. Ten gin seasoned with marjoram and champagne. At the poolside Pavillon de la Piscine, a lavish buffet breakfast is served, which is transformed into a scenic and extra luxurious brunch on Sundays, including fresh seasonal products, cured meats, and fish, lobsters, oysters, smoked salmon, salads, tagines and an excessive array of homemade jams and patisseries. And champagne, of course! For the sweet tooth, the Le Menzeh Glacier & Pâtissier, nestled in the gardens, serves unmissable macaroons and homemade ice-creams – the almond milk figures among the favorites. A small selection of games are available here for guest’s amusement.
To complete the gastronomic frenzy, the hotel’s wine cellar holds more than 3.500 bottles. As the food and drink, the 230 square meter marble and mosaic spa is also a highlight in La Mamounia: it has been voted best spa in Morocco for six years in a row by the respected Spafinder Wellness Institution. With ornate ceilings and arch columns, the area comprises three hammams, ten wellness rooms, a hairdressing salon, manicure and pedicure cabins, an indoor heated pool, a jacuzzi and a fitness studio equipped with Life Fitness machines. In addition to the lush native brand marocMaroc and German-based Amala, the spa uses exclusive products signed by the hotel that includes black soap, rich in vitamin E, and Rhassoul, a mineral clay extracted in the Atlas mountains rich in detergent properties, as well as argan oil, rose water and scented orange water.
One of the stellar treatments, called Light on Body, includes a hammam evasion, a black soap application, a body scrub with a kessa (special exfoliating glove), an orange infusion, an almond milk shampooing, an amber honey body scrub, and a light seeds face scrub, followed by an aromatic massage with argan oil and monoï butter, back scrub and a hot stone massage. Phew! Other facilities available for guests are specific areas for practicing pilates and yoga, two clay tennis courts, ping pong tables, a bowling court, a library, a tea room, a business center, and a 1500 square meter vegetable garden.
Last but not least, the swimming pool, remodeled in the style of the city’s Menara gardens and decorated with fish-scale tiles, is a silent glittering haven. Even if you do not have a reservation at La Mamounia, don’t leave the city without visiting for a replenishing dip in the pool or, at least, an afternoon mint tea.

Blending its Asian heritage with local Moroccan influences, the Mandarin Oriental makes its African debut in Marrakech displaying a rustic sophistication concept together with the chain’s well-known unparalleled service.
More than 100,000 fragrant roses and some 500-years old olive trees from the snow-capped Atlas Mountains repose beside scented jasmines and night blooming Cestrum in the Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech’s 20 hectares of landscaped gardens. Cactus and prickly pear plants also dot the area, and their fruit can be enjoyed in ice creams served at the restaurant, while their oil is incorporated into traditional spa rituals. Only minutes from the city center and the famous Medina, the historical center, a labyrinth of narrow passageways and local shops full of character, the five-star hotel boasts a design inspired by local Berber and Andalusian-Arabic influences, which masterfully and harmoniously incorporates to the Oriental heritage that the chain is famous for. And the Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech does just that. Named after fresh green olives found in the region of the Meknès, the Mes’Lalla restaurant celebrates traditional gastronomy with a unique twist from chef Meryem Cherkaoui, who turned to the much-appreciated recipes of local fishermen and farmers before creating his menu, resulting in a modern fusion of tastes and textures. Lamb is one of the star ingredients, appearing cooked at low temperature for seven hours and served with pear confit and ginger carrots, or in a perfect kebab topped with a Moroccan perfumed juice.
On the sweet side, highlights include hazelnut praline pastille and rose cannelloni with verbena red berry confit. Adjacent to the restaurant is the versatile Le Salon Berbère, which evolves from a breakfast venue to a pleasant afternoon tea lounge to a chic champagne bar. Menu highlights include grilled royal sea bream with herbs and niçoise salad with seared tuna.
Open-air, all-day dining is available at the Pool Garden, under the shade of gorgeous bougainvillea filled pergolas. Scheduled to open this summer at the hotel is Ling Ling, a blend of restaurant and bar with a new dining experience that draws inspiration from the izakaya concept, popular in the East, where food accompanies the drinks and not the other way around. Here, cocktails will be at the heart of the experience. Although Mandarin Oriental’s bespoke “Time Rituals” encourage guests to book time rather than specific rituals, some of the tempting choices in treatments are the Remodelling Face – where four bio-stimulating currents promise to deliver wider-looking eyes, more pronounced cheekbones, a more clearly defined facial contour and less prominent wrinkles and the Pre and After Sun Rituals, which intend to prepare the skin for the Mediterranean sun and prolong its benefits. The highlight of the spa, however, is the hammam, located at the heart of Moroccan culture for centuries. Treatments incorporating its use include the Caracal, a 4h20 procedure which includes a hair washing ritual, an oxygen facial, a scalp massage, a body massage, a blow-dry, and a makeup application. Pampering at its peak. The spa area also offers a fitness center with state-of-the-art cardiovascular and weight training equipment for all levels, an indoor heated swimming pool, and a hairdresser and beauty salon, as well as a yoga studio and tai chi classes. Outdoors, leisure options include a golden swimming pool at the center of the resort, ideal for laps and leisurely dips, with over 600 square meters, a jogging track that spans throughout the property and an organic vegetable garden with more than 90 varieties of tomato.
Look out for the blue tomato, known for its exceptional antioxidant properties. The resort also lies adjacent to two premium golf courses, to which guests have direct access. Designed by the architect Jean Michel Wilmotte, La Reserve Ramatuelle was built from the revitalization of a building from the 1970s. The original facade of shells, plaster, and brick reflects the Mediterranean setting and has been completely preserved in the new layout. On the other hand, the decoration of the interior was entrusted to the designer Rémi Tessier, who brings to his work the idea that luxury should be felt and not forcedly displayed, which is exactly what you can see in La Reserve hotels, either in Ramatuelle or in the units of Geneva and Paris.

Hudson Yards considered the largest private real-estate enterprise in the United States, has now surpassed giants like Rockefeller Center in scope and scale. Located on the west side of midtown Manhattan, the complex has opened an enormous amount of space for new businesses. One group that has stepped in to fill that coveted space is Wild Ink, an Asian restaurant located on the fifth floor of the building. Can you imagine the view? Wild Ink landed in New York courtesy of the English group Rhubarb, the same name behind the world-famous Sky Garden and Royal Albert Hall. “We are thrilled to launch our first international restaurant at Hudson Yards. Rhubarb creates memorable dining experiences in the most prominent places in the world. We couldn’t be left out of one of the most iconic places in New York that is redefining gastronomy, ” says P.B Jacobse, the group’s director.
Developed by London designer Robert Angell, the creative engineer behind The Savoy, the space has oriental influences with an industrial touch. The highlight of the design is a 10-seat marble-topped counter in front of an open kitchen that allows guests to watch chefs make the culinary magic happen. If you can’t get counter space, you can seat yourself in one of the 173 seats the restaurant offers, all offering a picturesque view of The Vessel and the Hudson River.
Led by head chef Peter Jim (who had hit restaurants at 50 Bowery and Refinery Hotel), the menu was inspired by his travel diary and is infused with far-flung flavors that incorporate Asian influences and global ingredients.
The menu is divided into seven sections and features shared starters and individual dishes. Begin your dining experience with exotic and tasty snacks, such as crispy pork with lemongrass, garlic and citrus, and wagyu pork with spiced coleslaw and chips in XO sauce. Creating Asian classics with a modern twist is this chef’s specialty. One particular Chinese classic could not be left off this menu: Dim Sum. Coming in three different versions, these small dumplings pack a flavorful punch.
You can choose between the saffron and curry lamb fillings; tofu, ginger, cilantro, and soy vinegar; or an American inspired dumpling filled with bacon, egg yolk, and homemade ketchup. Jim’s dumplings are a modernist’s vision of a traditional dish, smaller than the original but exponentially tastier.
For main courses, bet on the tartare accompanied by mustard that comes to the table on fire, literally. A connection between Italy and Japan is expertly forged by the Yuzu risotto with spice-scented mushrooms. If you just want to snack on something while getting drinks, choose the scallops or chips with aioli sauce. Speaking of drinks, Wild Ink has a cocktail menu created by renowned mixologist Johnny Swet, who earned his stripes at top restaurants like Balthazar, Jimmy, and Pastis.
The drinks evoke a mixture of Eastern and Western influences, with distinctive ingredients such as Thai whiskey, black sesame-infused gin, and more cream. Another highlight in the drinks category is the sheer variety of wines: the restaurant houses a 30-foot wall filled with over 650 labels from various continents. Such is the success of Wild Ink that the London-based group is betting on another venture next year. This next venture, also in Hudson Yards, will contain a bar, restaurant, an event space, and will feature the largest observatory in the western hemisphere.

When the restaurateur Keith Mcnally decided to open Pastis in 1999, there was no Highline, no boutique stores, and almost nothing in the way of tourist attractions for visitors in Chelsea. McNally cleverly realized that, in such a setting, there would be little competition for a great restaurant. His creation would help boost the culinary and cultural scene of the formerly anemic neighborhood, as he pioneered a landmark restaurant on ninth ave and Little Street.
Born in London, McNally moved to New York in 1975, where he worked in dozens of restaurants. In the mid-‘80s, McNally opened his first venture, The Odeon. He hasn’t stopped expanding his business since, with staggeringly successful restaurants like Nell, Balthazar, and Pastis, among others, totaling 39 restaurants in all.
Entering the new Pastis location is something akin to having déjà vu. Located only a few feet away from the original address in the hippest part of the Meatpacking District, the new restaurant has been reborn through the partnership of McNally and restaurateur Stephen Starr. The opening celebrates the return of McNally, who spent three years away from the business while dealing with health issues.
The yellowish light, the stainless steel doors, the tiled floors and antique mirrors with plates of the day written on them – all of these details reference the first Pastis (including the telephone number, which remains the same despite the former closure.) The improvements, however, make a significant difference.
The new menu features classic dishes that made the locale one of the most sought after gastronomic destinations in the city. Nonetheless, the owners saw fit to institute a few changes. The steak (the restaurant’s signature dish) now comes with a side of fries, and the Au Poivre can be ordered in three sizes, with prices ranging from $32 to $48.
As for appetizers, the French classics are a hit, such as a tuna in ravigote sauce, escargot à la bourguignonne, herring with roasted potatoes, and the famous salad niçoise, accompanied by a red wine vinaigrette. The steak sandwich makes a return to the menu with onion and gruyère cheese, in addition to other delectable plates such as the cheeseburger à l’Américaine, roast duck with olives, and the mustard skate.
The breakfast menu also features traditional French dishes such as ham, egg, and gruyere crepes and Florentine quiche. Classic American dishes are also available, such as avocado toast and eggs Benedict with Parisian ham and hollandaise sauce. Buttermilk pancakes make a triumphant return, as well as Croque monsieur and organic-egg omelets with fries. For desserts, bet on handcrafted ice creams like Coupe de Cerises made with pistachios, among other French innovations.

From Renaissance-style hotels to modern buildings made for the new Instagram generation – Schrager is not afraid to risk it all. His current goal is to produce a new generation of glamor in a technological setting.
Millennials have long been waiting for accommodation in New York designed especially for them, different from standard hotels that are indistinguishable from one another. For this new audience, “high-end” doesn’t equate to the status symbols of the past. What millennials want, ultimately, is to have an unforgettable experience – from the room amenities to the hotel restaurant. With this insight in mind, Schrager and the Marriott group have teamed up to build a hotel that satisfies the desires of these young travelers – knowing that today’s style is all about simplicity. Defined as a “home-facing hotel,” the New York Edition was inspired by twentieth-century New York’s private clubs, Gilded Age mansions, and Stanford White’s architectural masterpieces. The feeling that one is staying in a home makes the place a haven within the city.

To maintain the touch of elegance and warmth envisioned by Schrager, few buildings could serve as a site for The New York Edition. For this reason, the iconic Clocktower, also known as the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Tower (MetLife), was chosen as a home for the hotel. Designed in 1909 by architectural firm Napoleon LeBrun & Sons, the Clocktower was for many years the tallest building in the Big Apple, until it was topped by the Woolworth Building in 1913.
Situated in a neighborhood known as NoMad, the hotel is one of the busiest locations in the city. The area has boomed in recent years and is seen by many as the new city center, north of the Meatpacking District and Chelsea and south of Times Square. As Arne Sorenson, Marriott International CEO puts is, “luxury has a new address. With the opening of our first Edition hotel in New York, in addition to the Clocktower restaurant, we have ushered in a new era of timeless lodging. ”
In all, there are 273 rooms with high ceilings and elegant decor, reminiscent of the luxury apartments in New York City in the 1990s. The building’s large original windows provide full views of the city – the larger apartments even have 360 ° views. The highlight of the decoration is the long table made of white oak, inspired by Jean-Michel Frank.
When it comes to amenities, guests’ tastes have changed in recent years. Aware of the change, the hotel offers modern and attentive service without being officious. The team is trained to know exactly when to enter and when to give a visitor space. Guests are encouraged to do what they want when they want. An example of this is the room service, which offers Prime beef and wild Atlantic salmon, but which can in minutes deliver a hamburger or a simple pasta if so-desired by the customer.
Speaking of eating, the New York Edition also features The Clocktower, a restaurant overlooking the park, headed by chef Jason Atherton. Tomato salad, burrata and basil, and seared tuna are part of the restaurant’s exclusive menu. The restaurant is divided into three dining rooms, one of which housed the chair of Met Life’s president in the old days. The sideboard, in which wines from around the world are stored, was where a secretary would file folders and documents from the CEO in days gone by.
For Schrager, “It is impossible to label this look”. Indeed. Few hotels can preserve the historic buildings in which they are housed with such elegance. The New Edition, while it respects the original facilities, knows how to provide guests with a refined environment. It’s clear that the partnership between Schrager and Marriott is a match made in heaven. The result is an Edition unlike any other in the world, primed for even further global expansion.
Two bars and a billiard room are also part of the hotel’s attractions. Separated as though in a private home, the rooms come together harmoniously, with spacious interiors and plenty of natural light. In the lobby bar, plaster walls stand in contrast to large custom-molded concrete windows – offering a stunning view of Madison Square Park. As a riff on the Millionaire’s Row mansions, a hand-painted steel fireplace has been placed in the lobby next to the spiral staircase leading to the second floor.
New York has one of the largest Greek populations outside of Greece, in competition with only Boston and Chicago. Approximately 23,000 Greeks live in the Big Apple. Add this to the recent popularity of destinations like Mikonos and Santorini and the result is clear: the demand for quality Greek cuisine is only going up.
It was with this in mind that chef Dionisis Liakopoulos took over the kitchen of Lola Taverna, which does Greek food with a fun and modern twist. The New York-based Greek chef has previously been responsible for the menus of renowned restaurants such as Kuzina, NOMA, Aska and the Greek bakery Fournos Theophilos.
Located in SoHo on the charming corner of Prince Street and 6th Avenue, the interior of the restaurant was designed by restauranteur and owner Cobi Levy, known for restaurants such as Babu Ji, Black Seed Bags and Little Prince. “We are excited to bring Lola to SoHo. The restaurant is hip and vibrant with excellent food and warm service. It’s the perfect mixture of two places I love: Greece and New York” Says Levy.
The restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling windows carry SoHo’s vibrant soul into Lola, while the interior décor evokes the relaxed, laid-back atmosphere of the Hellenic peninsula. The neutral color palette could not be greeker and matches exquisitely with the floral arrangements and ceramic pots made by the American potter Helen Levi. With a modern take on Greek cuisine, Liakopoulos’s menu was inspired by the lush vegetation of the islands.
Classics like mezze (small, varied portions), moussaka and Greek salad are can’t miss attractions. Served in dishes made by Jono Pandolfi, risotto al Nero di sepia, rice feta and fried calamari with furikake seasoning are the highlights of the menu, which also includes tasty lobster noodles (prepared on the client’s table) and lobster with the essence of ouzo, a typically Greek aniseed drink.
Claur visited the restaurant, and we noticed that all the cool kids from NYC were out here. It’s the perfect option for an unhurried dinner on a lively night with good food and beautiful people. To create the drink list, the restaurant called in reinforcements from friends in the gastronomic sector. The cocktail list went to the staff of Athenian bar “The Clumsies” which this year joined the ranking of the best bars in the world. The drinks revisit Greek classics. One highlight is the Spritz of Athens, which features vermouth and a splash of Aperol. The Skinos Snapper combines vodka, ouzo, lemon juice and a Bloody-Mary mix produced by the house. The Kalamata Negroni updates the traditional drink, utilizing an exotic Campari made of black olives.
To harmonize completely with the dishes, the wine list was adeptly selected by sommelier Laura Maniec Fiorvanti, co-founder of Corkbuzz wine bar. The selections have the best of the Mediterranean, including the Peloponnese mix of Agiorgitiko and Cabernet, as well as Sardinian Skouras Megas Oenos and Panevino Rosso Picci.
The Big Apple has had a long history with Ralph Lauren’s cafés. It began in 2014 when the beloved brand decided to open a coffee shop with its signature logo near the iconic Fifth Avenue store. Buzz about this new outpost swept the neighborhood, and the place became a go-to for coffee-crazed New Yorkers. With the closure of the café two years later, many of the city’s coffee-lovers were orphaned.
Building on the success of its Asian stores, the Ralph Lauren brand has once again landed back in Manhattan, this time with a food truck in the middle of Rockefeller Center. Betting on its lifestyle contingent, Ralph’s Coffee has reopened its doors, this time in the Flatiron neighborhood, boasting a spectacular view of Fifth Avenue.
With a vibe equal parts elegant and authentic, Ralph’s is more than just a coffee shop. Upon entering, the espresso machine (with its pearly white tone and retro feel) gives off a lustrous glow. Behind the counter, impeccably attired waiters wear striped shirts and Ralph Lauren knitwear, together with denim aprons embroidered with the unmistakable logo.
With a warm and inviting interior, the colorful tiles and marble countertops almost make us forget why we’re here: to savor the rich and aromatic coffee. Teapots painted with the brand logo carry milk and other additions for the flagship store’s coffee. Known principally for his exquisite fashion choices, Ralph Lauren brings the same attention to detail to his coffee.
To this end, the store has partnered with La Colombe, a reputable coffee roaster that sells beans grown in Africa, Central America, and South America. Made from organic beans, the classic and creamy espresso, the decaf coffee, and the special “Ralph’s Roast” are sold in creative metallic packaging that has old school energy. For caffeine-free coffee fans, don’t worry, the brand has a Swiss decaffeination process that gives you the full flavor of the coffee without the stimulating effects.

Art, architecture, design, and refinement. Hamptons is already known for carrying all these concepts, but in the last decade, the region has had an eclectic and peculiar new place: The Maidstone Hotel.
After ten years of success, The Maidstone Hotel, the Hamptons’ most exclusive boutique hotel, has become synonymous with an unaffected refinement. When we think of Swedish design, a certain image comes to mind: neutral tones, standardized furniture, and absolutely zero mixings of colors. The Maidstone Hotel exists to show that Sweden has much more to offer from a decorative standpoint than we may have previously imagined.
Jenny Ljungberg and Jonathan Baker have handpicked all of the furnishings and colors featured in the hotel. The eclectic locale is equal parts quirky and extravagant and contains 19 individually designed rooms, with three independent cottages, all serving as a backdrop for innumerable events and a parade of high style.
Known in Hollywood for his cinematic productions, Baker is what one might call a multi-tasker. From his work in film to the development of a line of aromatherapy products, wherever the entrepreneur goes, success follows in his wake. The demand for a hotel began in 2008 when the couple began looking at spaces to open a business in New York. Their search would lead them to find a property for sale that would eventually become the Maidstone.
Constructed more than 150 years ago, the houses are on top of foundations that date back to the 17th century. In the 1920s, the space functioned as an inn called The Maidstone Arms, closed years ago. After purchasing the hotel, Baker and Ljungberg turned the space into a coveted destination in East Hampton. Searching for discrete refinement, celebrities like Meryl Streep, Katie Holmes, James Franco, and Will Smith, set up dinners on the property.
When the Maidstone was built, the principal objective was to make a hotel that had the feel of a home – literally, since the couple spends so much of their time on the property, dividing their time between houses in New York and Los Angeles. Known as the Maidstone House, their lodgings are connected to the hotel and the individual cottages.
Another location, called The Residence, was created as a space for yoga retreats, conferences, and poker nights. Baker’s idea was to transplant the glamor of Hollywood to the Hamptons. Judging from the numerous celebrities who regularly visit, one can safely say that he has succeeded.
The Swede Carl Waldekranz, the founder of the e-commerce platform Tictail, is a frequent guest of the Maidstone. Waldekranz proposed putting products from all over the world on the property (valued at $22 million USD), with a majority of the goods coming from Sweden.
The first time he visited the hotel, this businessman with roots in New York noted that he and Baker had more in common than he’d imagined. From this visit sprang the desire to create a store with all the Swiss products that are featured in the hotel. Now, just outside the entrance to The Maidstone, you can purchase curated Tictail products such as backpacks, raincoats, sandals and eco-friendly lotions.
A preoccupation with nature is one of the hotel’s founding premises. Electric car chargers, recycling, and towel changes only when necessary are some of the steps the hotel has taken to go green. Over the last decade, the owners have developed employee training that stresses ecological conservation. Plastic bottles have given way to glass bottles, and a system of water filtration was instituted in addition to replacing common cleaning products for organic ones.
To avoid food-waste, the hotel restaurant only serves slow food portions. Led by head chef Ron Phillip, the restaurant has two menus: one for seafood, and one more traditional menu that serves barbecue and other snacks. In addition to the organic food, all of the food and drink is bought from local providers. Like all good appreciators of the arts, the Baker couple spares no effort in finding artworks that connect with the local spirit. On the walls of the hotel, works are exhibited for a period of up to six months, at which point they are swapped out for other pieces.
The hotel most frequently exhibits lesser-known European artists, but it has an impressive permanent collection that features works from Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. To lend the space a personal touch, collections from the couple themselves are scattered throughout the premises.
The Maidstone’s list of amenities is extensive and includes the Jonathan Baker 1962 line, created by the entrepreneur himself. This line of organic oils comprises the hotel’s signature scent. Each oil has 11 different components like lavender, rose, lemongrass, and more, and sell for $100. If you want to try one out before you take it home, you can request some samples.
The opportunity to hire a beach guide is another highlight of the Maidstone experience. The service includes a champagne picnic on the beach and the installation of chairs and a parasol. The children can enjoy eight types of games, including ping pong, cornhole, and a massive Jenga set. From infants to adults, no one will want to miss out on this paradise in East Hampton.
It’s rare to reinvent oneself in style, but the fancy label Mandarin Oriental has done so masterfully. The group has been awarded an impressive star in Canouan, a small Caribbean island only 8 km long, surrounded by a large coral reef. Located in the archipelago of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the island stands out as an escape for the few, known as a new destination where billionaires seek refuge from millionaires. Chic, no? Despite having a smaller portfolio than it’s competition, the Mandarin Oriental has already won the title for most Michelin stars. After opening two locations in Doha and Dubai, the company has taken another step forward with its most recent success.
It takes a mere 30 minutes to fly to Canouan from Barbados or St. Lucia. Upon arriving at the hotel, guests encounter decorations that are somewhere between beachy-sophisticated and tranquil paradise. Rosy shades are present in each detail, from the pillows at reception to the lounge chairs by the seashore. The contrast between the marble furnishings and the crystal-chandeliers gives the hotel a distinctive luster. The imposing resort contains 40 accommodations, a combination of villas and suites. The colonial style suites come equipped with a double shower and sink, a bath, amenities from Acqua di Parma, and a personal butler. The villas, which have between two and three rooms, offer a discreet and modern style.
Ideal for families, the villas come equipped with kitchens and well-stocked laundry-rooms, a jacuzzi, a private infinity pool, and golf-cars for traveling across the hotel grounds. If you want to do more than dip your toes, for about $10 million (USD) it’s possible to buy one of these properties – which, it’s worth remembering, all have a view of Goldhal beach. Guests are also given tablets that allow them to order room service and allow them to control the lights, thermostats, and windows.
Using the tablet, one can also make spa reservations. In the seven treatment rooms available, the hotel offers yoga classes along with unique treatments made from Caribbean ingredients. Exfoliation with mango, rice, and ginger are all available. The featured treatment is a massage titled “digital wellness,” the point being to achieve a state of relaxation so profound as to forget one’s cell phone. Against the backdrop of lush sea views, this task is none too difficult.
